Jeremy Siepmann

Jeremy Siepmann completed his formal music education at the Mannes College of Music in New York where he studied piano with Hans Neumann, conducting with Paul Berl, and theory and analysis with Carl Schachter and Felix Salzer.

In the following year (1964) he moved to London at the suggestion of Sir Malcolm Sargent and continued his studies privately with Peter Feuchtwanger (piano) and Alan Walker (analysis). After several years as a freelance lecturer he was invited to join the staff of London University. For most of the last 30 years he has confined his teaching activity to the piano, master classes on both sides of the Atlantic and writings on music.

His books include a biography of Chopin, two volumes on the history and literature of the piano, and a biography of Brahms. Since 1997 Mr. Siepmann has been editor of Piano magazine in England. Also a broadcaster, he has devised, written and presented more than 1000 programs, including the award-winning BBC series The Elements of Music. In 1988 he was appointed Head of Music at the BBC World Service. He left the BBC in 1994 to form his own independent production company.
